Kathy Huckabee of Mt. Vernon-Ruth Elementary School was selected as a participant in Cohort 4 of NASA's Endeavor Science Teaching Certificate program.
Each year, through its Endeavor Science Teacher Certificate Project, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (commonly known as NASA) awards fellowships to educators who study and make contributions to the development of a science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, workforce.
Participants in the Endeavor project collaborate in an online community as they complete at least five graduate-level courses including Action Research in the Classroom. The program improves teachers’ knowledge of content and explores changes in instructional practice related to the application of science concepts.
After hundreds of applications were submitted to NASA for consideration, Mrs. Huckabee was selected as a participant in Cohort 4 of the Endeavor program. As an Endeavor participant, she is one of only 51 teachers from 27 states, the District of Columbia, and 3 other countries to be selected for this honor.
Kathy Huckabee of MVRES is recognized at the Feb 7, 2012 school board meeting.
