Facebook Donates Computers To RCS

(Rutherford Co.) – September 11, 2012 - Facebook will present 10 new computers to Rutherford County Schools' fifth-grade teachers and students tonight. The donation will be made at 7:00 pm, at the Rutherford County School Board Meeting.
Press is welcome to attend at the boardroom of the Cool Springs Administrative Offices, 382 West Main Street, Forest City.
The donation will extend Facebook's “Fifth Grade Frontiers” program, which was established last year to support the school system’s Going G.L.O.B.A.L. initiative. Each school will determine whether to use the computers in fifth grade classrooms or designate the computer for use by a particular student. At the end of the year, the computers will be retooled so they can be passed to the next class of fifth graders.
Superintendent Dr. Janet Mason said, “We are appreciative to Facebook for their continuing efforts and support to provide technology to our elementary students. The computers provide the opportunity for fifth graders to become more familiar with the technology prior to entering middle school. Last year, students who may not have had access to the Web were given a great opportunity and made the most of it.”
Facebook Data Center Manager George Henry added, “Access to the web is an increasingly important part of a good education, and Facebook is thrilled to be making these opportunities available to even more of Rutherford’s budding young minds.”
