FAQs | Frequently Asked Questions
What is remote learning?
Remote learning provides for ongoing education outside the traditional classroom environment. It leverages multiple strategies for regular communication and the exchange of instructional content. It features printed curriculum materials for students enrolled in grades PreK-2, and online instruction through Canvas and other e-tools for students enrolled in grades 3-12. It also enables students to access their teachers remotely via telephone and teleconferencing tools.
How do I contact my teacher for instructional support?
All teachers will share their school email addresses and preferred telephone numbers with students and their parents. Additionally, all teachers of students enrolled in grades 3-12 are available through integrated messaging features within Canvas. Additional options for telecommunication between students and their teachers will be available soon, and RCS will share more information about them as soon as they are available.
What will my child do if we do not have internet access at home?
Home access to the Internet is a challenge for many families. RCS will work with families to ensure that students have the tools, information, and resources they need in order to participate in remote learning during the school closure. Middle school and high school students may download Canvas course content via WiFi access to the Internet from designated areas in school parking lots or from other public access points within the community. Content for students enrolled in grades 3-5 will be downloaded onto each student device prior to home deployment in order to minimize the need for home Internet access. Please contact your child’s school if you need assistance in accessing remote learning materials.
How do I care for the device at home?
Apple products are constructed with a variety of materials with specific cleaning requirements. To get started, these tips apply to all products:
• Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid cloths, towels, paper towels, and other abrasive materials that may scratch surfaces.
• Avoid excessive wiping, which may cause damage.
• Unplug all external power sources, devices, and cables before cleaning.
• Keep liquids away from devices, unless otherwise noted for specific products.
• Don’t allow moisture into any openings.
• Don’t use aerosol sprays, bleaches, or abrasives to clean devices.
• Don’t spray cleaners directly onto the devices.
Is it OK to use a disinfectant on my Apple product?
You may use a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipe®. Gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, including the display, keyboard, and other exterior surfaces. Do NOT use bleach. Don’t allow moisture into any openings, and don't submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents.
