customarily I prepare a superintendent's report before the meeting and I write it out with great care so that I don't miss speak but I haven't done that this evening um that said if you'll indulge me I feel compelled to speak to a mailing that I received here at my office late last week's entitled defend North Carolina kids calling all Mama bears and Papa bears too identify and combat harmful Khan content in your child's School sending kids to government schools does not mean parents forfeit their fundamental right to have a say in what their children are being taught our children are being taught obscene content in school that's being actively hidden from parents and Society we have the responsibility to expose the evil hiding in our classrooms clearly proclaim the truth and put a stop to the UN able even evil happening in our schools and behind our backs Mr chairman I'm a fairly learned man I went to North Carolina's Public Schools as an elementary school student a middle school student a high school student have earned 3 degrees from North Carolina's public universities I was an English major and an English teacher I'm a well-read man and I haven't seen so much rubbish packed into a 4X 7 cardboard flyer as I have with this handout in my entire life the people who are spreading these lies and pedaling this propaganda ought to be embarrassed and they ought to be ashamed I see Brandon Bill sitting on the other side of the room I had the great Fortune to start my day at Harris Elementary School I didn't see a lot of unspeakable evil lurking in the shadows at Harris Elementary School what I saw were teachers working their tails off and doing the right thing for for kids I saw students rehearsing math facts and learning how to find the area of a triangle I saw 3 fifth grade students stand up proudly and confidently in these young ladies LED their classmates across the entire entire School in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance the United States flag I watched a media coordinator exposing kids to genres of Literature Like fantasy science fiction and mystery and helping to connect kids with developmentally appropriate texts and genres that they would find most appealing to them I watch students learning about stem and I'm going to tell you that work doesn't just happen at Harris Elementary School the best part of my job is that I get to walk into any school any classroom any place I like it nobody's going to stop me and I've had great opportunities to visit pre-k through High School classrooms in this system unspeakable evil you ought to be ashamed our teachers are teaching kids foreign languages our teachers are teaching kids about health occupations you want to know what's happening in our classrooms drive down Highway 221 you can watch our students building a house under the leadership and guidance of their teachers our teachers are using state-of-the-art equipment to help students learn to diagnose problems with the latest electronic vehicle technology our students are learning about Horticulture and rhetoric mathematics and science foreign language in the Arts our teachers are hosting open houses to invite members of the community to come in and see the great artwork that our students are creating I've been invited to attend a band concert in a couple of to watch our middle school students and high school students prepare for competition on a state stage our teachers teach all day and then they go coach State Wrestling champions Rich Cox is a high school English teacher who on side goes out and wins State Wrestling Championships unspeakable evil shut your mouth the only thing that I regret is that more people don't know the magic that happens in our classrooms attacking our teachers you should be ashamed of yourselves we should be naming buildings and building monuments and having parades for these people and sending them home worried about whether they're going to have adequate instructional supplies or a job next year is well beneath us in Rutherford County our teachers deserve more and we've got your back thank you for all that you do
