Posted on 10/25/2012
CMS OELCChase Middle School has completed an Outdoor Environmental Learning Center that was made available through the NC Foundation for Soil & Water Conservation Inc. and the Rutherford Soil & Water Conservation District.  The Outdoor Center was funded through a $2,500 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.  Donna Elliott, 7th Grade Science Teacher, and school staff developed the plan for the outdoor classroom along an existing nature trail.  Jeremy Bradley, Agriculture Teacher at Chase Middle, assisted with removing trees and students worked to clear the site before installation.  Richard Beard, Wood Working teacher, and students built and installed the benches and the stairs.  Donations were made to the project by Robbins Brick and Block.  Students will continue to work and improve the Outdoor Learning Center and are excited to be able to learn outside.
