Posted on 10/24/2014

On Sept. 30., the same day in which another child in North Carolina was hit by a passing motorist, Raleigh-based WNCN TV released a new public service announcement as part of their #Brake4Buses campaign.

The TV station picked up on this issue in August at abus safety press conference held by State Superintendent June Atkinson and set out to make a difference in student safety.

The PSA was filmed in Angier with the assistance of the Harnett County Schools Transportation Department and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Since the #Brake4Buses initiative was launched, more than 30 million people have been reached via social media, with hundreds of thousands of people sharing the content created by WNCN and NCDPI.

In addition, television stations across the country have pledged to air the public service announcement.  Many recognizable names have also recorded #Brake4Buses messages of their own, including North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and members of the NBC TODAY Show team.
