WhitesidesFormer RCS student Stacie Whitesides and her brother Brent Whitesides delivered over 700 children's books to Carver Center on Monday, December 14.

Stacie, who lives in Washington D.C., was inspired to make a difference in the community that helped raise her after witnessing an altercation outside of a public library.  So she enlisted the help of her brother, Brent - also a graduate of Rutherford County Schools - to help organize a book drive to benefit the children of Carver Center.

The two began handing out fliers and using social media to reach out to hundreds of friends and colleagues in both the DC area and in Rutherford County.  Beginning on November 1st, the two were able to collect 730 books, and they drove to Spindale on Monday to deliver them to Carver Center Director Paula Lewis.

The purpose of this donation was "to bring the Rutherford-Spindale community together for a common goal.  That goal, is to ensure that no one child goes without a book to read this holiday season."

"Hopefully we can inspire those in the community to help our youth," said Brent.
