my position to the backpack program coordinator for Rutherford County schools with created in response to the fact we needed someone to officially oversee the pride Road someone to educate Community about the needs of our children that are food insecure in our community we can children who are malnourished we can't educate children who come to school hungry who were scared when they go home they not know another meal until they come back to school the next day or the next week nobody I think could believe that that's an acceptable way for a child to experience childhood and mature and Adolescence and adulthood educating a child is about all the learning that it's also about their social emotional mental physical nutritional and other kinds of development we take that work very seriously and we think that making sure that they don't go hungry as a part of what we do every single day I can do Max has a huge piece but they can't successful if they're hungry every day they can't be successful if they go home and don't know if they're going to have dinner that night there's a bigger things for these students to worry about than what they make on a test the next day they don't have to be hungry that's the one bear that we can have an impact on I use it not only as a take-home program for us but there are instances where we have kids that come in on a Monday and just have it we had lots of you this weekend so backpack program is just extra offer up program is so much more than a bag of random snacks it is a program that says we're here we're and we're going to take care of her children are fortunate to have access to a really strong School nutrition program within the school but outside the school on Friday evening over the weekends over holiday breaks when schools concession at Food insecurity becomes a really poignant and Troublesome issue for families we believe and we're fortunate live in a community with a lot of supporters who believe that children shouldn't have to worry about their next meal quite bluntly that about that network of support I just don't think the program could be sustainable and serve the children in the way that we think they deserve to be served getting $10 or a package of ramen noodles the church getting involved in doing your whole program like Florence does it really does take a village and every little bit helps our program simply could not meet the needs of the students and the families that we do without community support this program is built on this contributions good caring people like you it all adds up
